Me

WHO AM I?

I am a husband, father, writer & seminary student living in central Pennsylvania. I live in a quaint old town that reminds me much of a shire village in England. I love being in the forest in Fall, I enjoy a good ale, and I make & smoke pipes.

The most important part of my identity, however, is that I am a Christian. I grew up in that particular bit of Protestantism known as Reformed Presbyterianism, and liked the soil so much that I decided to stay! I am a member and man under care of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, a biblical, confessional & evangelistic denomination founded in 1936. I constantly wrestle between a desire for the purity of truth and a beauty of practice.

My writing breaks down into four broad categories: software, blogging, books & sermons.

Firstly, I write computer software. I have been doing this for six years professionally and as an independent consultant. My specialties are 3-D computer graphics using OpenGL and GIS development, but I also have significant experience in Windows application development and a puttering familiarity with website design. For a list of sites I've built and designed, see my links page. For more information on software consulting services, see my consulting page.

In addition to software, I also write essays on faith and life, most of which appear on my blog. Last year a collection of fifteen essays from my blog, one longer esay on Christian community, and a previously-unpublished short story were published as my second book, Making Tea. Prior to these writings, my first book was a novel of epic fantasy, entitled Soulmancer. It was written in 2005, and published in early 2007. None of my writings have achieved enormous commercial success or distribution. All of them, however, have been well-received by those who have read them.

The last sort of writing I do are sermons. As a seminary student living and working in a local church context, I have been privileged to exhort my congregation on several occasions. These sermons are available for free in mp3 format from my downloads page, or through iTunes via my podcast. I offer them not with any delusions of grandeur, but with the humble and prayerful hope that they might edify some.
